A little history...
In the fall of 1987, two friends named James Loftin and Hughes Lowrance decided Athens, Georgia needed a restaurant that served a high quality, reasonably priced sandwich. Well, they were right. Locos Deli and Pub opened its doors on March 28, 1988 and never looked back. People raved about superior meats and cheeses used in the sandwiches, combined with the friendly service and neighborhood atmosphere. By 1990, the business had outgrown the small 400 square foot building, so Loftin and Lowrance moved into a 2500 square foot building next to the campus of the University of Georgia. At this point the restaurant really began to grow. Adding new items to the menu such as chicken wings, burgers, and beer completed the draw.
After one year, the partners saw room for an additional location on the eastside of Athens. The second location opened its doors in March 1992. The success of this location proved that Locos had an appeal outside of the college crowd. The majority of its customers consist more of local residents although students do frequent this location.
In 1994, the company decided to expand to the westside of town. At this point, more help was needed and the company brought in longtime employees Bridger Loftin and Ben Rainey as partners. As GMs of this location, they helped bring the stores to a new level of success. Sales grew as the name recognition in Athens played a role.
Locos Franchise Company, Inc. currently has 14 locations in the Southeast. It was established in early 1997 and quickly caught the attention of many people seeking to own their own business while using a proven method. The company plans to open ten to fifteen more locations by the end of 2002. The majority of these will be located in the Southeast with the concentration on Georgia. Locos Franchise Company sees a national market as the place to be in the twenty first century.
